Pre-Built Controller Applications: Try Before You Buy
The BASautomation open controllers are programmed using Sedona—a license-free function block programming language designed for implementing control schemes. Contemporary Controls has developed several product lines based on Sedona, including:
- BACnet-compliant open controllers for unitary control and edge control
- The BAScontrol Toolset for unrestricted program development and archiving
- Pre-Built Applications with custom Sedona components for easy configuration of controllers in constant volume air-handling, fan coil, and heat pump applications
Although all controller models are freely programmable using Sedona, they can be made into configurable controllers by installing one of the pre-built applications:
- Constant Volume Air Handlers
- 2-Pipe or 4-Pipe Fan Coils
- Constant Volume Heat Pumps
Both the BAScontrol Toolset and pre-built applications are available as free downloads from Contemporary Controls' website.
The BAScontrol Toolset includes the BASemulator, the Sedona Application Editor (SAE), and BASbackup software tools that can be used to emulate, program, and archive any controller in our BASautomation line. You can use the Toolset with a standard web browser to develop and test automation applications without an actual controller.
The BASemulator mimics the operation of a real controller on your PC and is an excellent tool for learning the intricacies of Sedona components and for bench testing control sequences before deploying programs in live field applications. While there is no physical connection to real inputs or outputs, input points can be forced, and outputs can be examined to determine effect.
Developers familiar with Sedona can utilize BASbackup utility to install one of our pre-built apps onto an emulated controller. This process is described in our video, Installing and Modifying Pre-built Sedona Applications.
The video also demonstrates how to use the Toolset to modify a pre-built app using the SAE, test the changes in BASemulator, and then use BASbackup to add the modified app onto a real controller. This approach lets you complete and validate your configuration before investing in the hardware, truly a "try before you buy" solution.
Each application is fully supported with complete documentation. Pre-built apps are provided "as-is," so they may not fit every application. However, as shown in the video, they can be modified and saved to meet custom control requirements.
